  • What is the time commitment?

Volunteering for the PTO offers flexibility in time commitment, allowing you to contribute as little as 15 minutes or dedicate a few hours, depending on your availability and interests. Whether you can spare a brief moment to assist with quick tasks like distributing flyers or engaging in brief discussions during meetings, or if you have more time to contribute by helping plan and execute events, your involvement is highly valued. The PTO recognizes and appreciates any level of commitment, and your efforts, no matter the duration, play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and thriving school community.

  • What do I need to do to volunteer?

To volunteer for the PTO or any school-related activities, you must complete a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. Having an up-to-date CORI, is crucial as it demonstrates your compliance with the school's safety protocols. CORI applications must be resubmitted at the beginning of each school year. CORIs obtained from other schools, town sports, or businesses cannot be used. CORI forms may be obtained through the Cove front office.

  • How often does the PTO meet?

PTO meetings occur four times a year and are typically conducted via Zoom, providing a convenient platform for broader participation. These meetings are designed to be inclusive, open to the public, and encourage the active involvement of parents, teachers, and community members.

Each meeting lasts approximately an hour, during which various topics related to school activities, fundraising initiatives, upcoming events, and other pertinent matters are discussed. By conducting regular Zoom meetings, the PTO fosters transparency, collaboration, and engagement among all stakeholders, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard and contributing to a thriving and unified school community.

  • When are PTO board elections?

PTO elections are held every two years via online ballot, and the upcoming regular elections are scheduled for Spring 2024. To ensure a fair and inclusive process, ballots are sent out to all individuals who have signed up for Aspen, the school's communication platform.

In the spring, the PTO calls for nominations for board positions and Committee Chairs via email. Caregivers and staff are actively encouraged to participate by nominating candidates or even putting themselves forward for available positions. This democratic approach fosters a sense of community ownership and engagement, allowing everyone to have a say in shaping the PTO's leadership and direction. By involving caregivers, teachers, and staff in the nomination process, the PTO ensures representation from diverse perspectives and sets the stage for a successful and impactful term ahead.

  • How do I become a committee chair?

At Cove, we believe in fostering a collaborative and inclusive community, and one way we achieve this is through our transparent nomination process for chair positions.

Every spring, caregivers can nominate themselves or their fellow colleagues for various chair positions. These nominations are thoughtfully considered by the President and the Board during the summer, resulting in the selection of passionate leaders to guide our initiatives forward.

Additionally, in the spirit of active involvement, we launch a fall survey where everyone can sign up for volunteer opportunities. Whether it's helping out in the library, school store, being part of the running club, or taking on the crucial role of room coordinators, there are ample ways to make a positive impact at Cove.
